Getting Pelted by Stones...First new unit of the Year

Sticks and stones will break......well you know how it goes.  This the first newly completed unit like bunch of miniatures of the year.  Got a couple of more slingers to paint yet, as I'm just randomly grabbing bunches of Saxons and Vikings to paint.

These are the Gripping Beast plastic Dark Ages miniatures.  Pretty repetitive poses, something that the kit has problems with.  I tried to change it up a bit with some really subtle conversions.

Please ignore the movement tray as that is something that I borrowed from a unit of chaos warriors. 

With most of these I tried to stay with a simple plain colors and use lots of browns and grays with some color mixed in.

Now I actually have some levy for Saga, Skirmishers for WAB, and not sure what they can be used for in Swordpoint.

Vikings....some new Conversions

 The GBP plastic Dark Ages heads work well with the plastic Viking and Saxon lines.  This is one that I converted by sculpting some hair on him.

 I've changed up the way I have been doing leather lately using a Reaper Master Series Ruddy Leather triad.  Nice set of colors.

 Pretty much a standard pose with just the head conversion.

 Shield transfer is from Battle Flag.

 This is another of the miniatures that I have painted up recently, just a slight conversion on this.  The decapitated head is from Warlord Games.

 The shield is my hand painted version.  The blood on the axe is Tamiya Red.

 Subtle conversions add a bit of flavor to your miniatures, always worth doing in my opinion when you do Vikings.

Another MAN DOWN! 2

 Saxon Thegn this time.  Actually its a crusader from the Perry Brothers' line.  Cool miniature line. 

 This in particular is a cool piece that I have had for a long while.  Nice to get it done.

Kill the King!

My Jarl got a little bit blood thirsty and decided to take it out on a Saxon king in this piece.

 This is a fun piece.  The miniatures of the Jarl and his downed opponent are Old Glory miniatures.  The dynamic Viking protecting him while he is doing his business is a converted Warlord Games. 

 On this shield I used a Battle Flag transfer that had an appropriate looking blood splatter as well.

 The Old Glory stuff is more like 25mm versus 28mm, so the Warlord Games converted barbarian fits a little better scale-wise than the Gripping Beast miniatures that are 28mm.  Warlord's stuff is more like 26-27mm.  Its all okay though, humans after all come in all sorts of different sizes.

First of the Saxons

 I have the last batches of the plastic Gripping Beast saxons on my paint table currently, a couple big units of them.  These are the first ones that complete.

 Some back ranks of Fryd spearmen.  The Gripping Beast Dark Ages plastics are okay miniatures, a little stale on the poses.  I think GBP tried to simpifly the assembling of their minis.  In my opinion after painting a great deal of them, they made a mistake doing that and ended with a very boring lot of miniatures.  But, they are versatile in use, and the heads do work with their plastic Viking and Saxon kits.  As you can see I used a Saxon head on one of these miniatures.

 This is one of the Perry Brothers' monks that I painted up for my Saxons.

Actually was kind of fun painting up this miniature.  Big change from what I have been painting.

The Storage Bin is Full!

Yea....I think its time the Crusaders find a new storage bin, as the Dark Ages will soon have Saxons getting added to it.
