Orc Unit #2...Playing Wack-A-Mole

I do like breaking things. You always see thos VC armies where the Skeletons are rising up out of the ground, so I thought I would have a bit of fun with that. This part of the theme will appear again as I like it better than the zombies.

Also another change of the heads. Added the eye plates, which sort of gives him that Viking feel.

Side view. A little bit of tweaking of the shoulder joints.

Yes I sculpted the chain. I'm a glutton for punishment.

Another with the faceplate added. The shield is from the beastmen. The blade on the shoulder is something that I have been doing with my own black orcs.

2nd Wave Warhammer Ancients Crusaders

My second group of crusaders. This time using the Perry Hospitallers. Mostly converting the horses, but I also decided to remove the bosses. I'm going for that transitional period.

I think the horses are turning out good and can't wait to start painting these guys.

Struggled a little with the backs of the horses, I went for a bit smoother flow since they are all running.

Also had some troubles with the lances until I took a hammer, old piece of railroad iron rail, and a dremel to some steel pins that Mr. Butcher had given to me. Beating on things takes out some frustration.

There you go. Second batch. Still not settled on how I'm going to paint this stuff. Need to figure that out soon.
Also working on figuring out how to do the banners, the Saxon Dog gave me some insight on how he's done some of his ultra cool banners. I've a few ideas now, working with GW Fantasy stuff the last few years, banners have always been conversions of plastic. This though is different.
Next up...back to Romans and poking fun at my lack of gaming skill.

Warhammer Ancients: Painted Roman Cavalry Officer

This is one of those models that sits on the edge of your desk for a year or so, ends up on the floor at some point, and then you pick it up one day and say, I'm going to paint it.

I really don't know that I'll ever use it with my WAB Roman army. I may since I did paint up a unit of cavalry recently. Which will be making its debut here, fairly soon. My Roman army should now be large enough for Adepticon. So I'll be signing up to play singles, and I am already signed up as a team-mate with Mike Butcher. Our team, rightfully named the Grumpy Old Coots.

I have in the past rarely painted horses. So this was somewhat new to me and I did learn a few things, which I will definitely apply to the Crusaders.

The paint work is not quite up to my usual standard for the Tabletop, but is close.

The base is GF9 wooden base, very nice square laser cut.

I also used GW's washes for the first time on this model. They are fairly nice. Outside of Scorched Brown and Scab Red, they are the only GW paints in my arsenal.
Next up back to the Crusaders...or should that be forward to the Crusaders.....

Crusading preparations...Perry style

I've been converting away, trying to get things somewhat ready for painting. I've converted a bunch of Perry Miniature early Normans to get them a little bit further into the crusades. And of course make them very different than your normal Perry Miniature Normans. Something I like to do.

Note the plastic shield is a GW High Elf shield. This is what I came up with after looking at reams of reference materials.

In the end I do think they turned out good enough.

I do not however plan to put caripsons on every horse, just way too much work, but quite a few of them will have them.

For Adepticon I plan to field at least two units of 8. One probably being a Holy Order, still need to figure that out before I start painting them though.

Still buildin' 'dem Orks....

Yep...still cranking out orcs and painting Romans. The romans are almost done, the orcs are like orcs, never ending.

This is another of the big bruisers for Orc Boyz unit #2. I like this Nob.

Not sure the mail coif turned out how I envisioned, but its different. One thing that slightly annoys me often are gaps, so here you see I redid the shoulder a little.

And here also.

The backbanner worked out well. I have a ton of these things leftover from the mutated empire model commission I did a while back. I think it looks orcy.

Zombie trophy head fits in nicely with the theme. I'm happy with the look on the shield, although chaos beastmen, I think it works out very well.

And some more of the frontal. Mounted up on a GF9 base, like the others. Using apoxie sculp to elevated the nob a bit to eliminate a conflict with the other rank and filers.
Next up. I would guess will be the afforementioned Romans, as I'm wrapping them up currently, and preparing to move forward on the next paint project, my crusaders.

Happy Thanksgiving....and

Hope everyone stateside and those serving the armed forces abroad have a good Thanksgiving. Eat a bird or two.

Well...accept for those Viqueen fans....how you like it now that Bratt Favre is your head coach. Bye Bye Childress, you got what you deserve when you signed over the team to the #4 Diva. Even nicer seeing good ole Brett ranked 32nd in the league at the QB, go down in flames. Its all about the streak. Only thing that can make it even better now, is that he gets suspended for the whole sexual harassment of Jen Sterger thing. It was very enjoyable watching the Packers destroy them last weekend. That's two coaches that have been fired this season after the Packer have played them. First the Cowgirls and then the Viqueens.

More Orcs...Unit #2 update

Another front line Nob. Borrowed a head from the black orcs. Doesn't show up well in this angle but the plasti-card plate has a sculpted fist on it.

The axe is from the new plastic Minotaurs. There are some really cool weapons in that box, even though the minotaurs themselves are not the best looking model. Shield from the chariot kit.

My orc glyph sculpt, can almost do them with my eyes closed.

And the standard bearer. I used the ogre banner, and added the skeletal'd zombie. Again continuing the theme of taking it to the VC. The orc really isn't all that special, but I did convert a little of him also.
