Back to the Holy Land - More Crusaders

Added a few more troops, mostly left over Conquest Games Normans, but also a couple of metal Gripping Beast figures in the command model and musician next to him.  

Need a few more models to fill out the ranks.  I started this unit something like 5-6 years ago.  Matching the paint scheme was not easy, but was not hard either.

The guy in the middle of these three on the end is a Perry miniature painted long ago, alongside of the new guys.

 Please ignore the Litko movement tray as that is just temporary at the moment.

Shearing some goats from the Chaos Beastmen

Some more thinning.  No, I'm not getting rid of all of them.  I'm keeping many and some of the more fragile stuff that I would hate to ship.  This is the second group that I plan on letting go of.

 I took a bunch of the inspiration for the armor from Roman period and also from the artwork.

 This banner head is just really cool looking.  Fun to paint as well.

Thinning the Chaos Beastmen Herd

These are some of my original Old Skool Beastmen.  Love these guys, but I just don't use them much for anything anymore.  So thinning out the herd and selling a couple of groups of them.  Not one of them is the same as the other, with tons of conversion work done to them.

When I did these up they were very stylized.  Lots of bits of armor added to them.  Lots of subtle arm conversions.

The paint was all the so-called Non-metallic Metal or NMM, one of the dumb terms that miniature painters use to justify a paint style.

Good paint is good paint in my opinion, you don't need some stupid terminology to justify a style.

Unleashing more Chaos Hounds

These are the OOP GW Chaos Warhounds that I built and painted for my Beastmen army.  I'm back after 4 straight weekends of kart racing.  These are quite old, but have held up well over the years after a lot of games.  I have decided thin out my collection of miniatures a bit with the fall of Warhammer as we use to know it.

 Here are some close up shots of the minis.  I remembered not liking these as I built them, but as I painted them they were quite cool looking.

 I think the torn flesh is pretty cool looking.

 I don't really remember what colors I used for the bodies, but I do think it worked quite well and accented the fur.

There you have it.....some more models that will likely be parting from my collection.  As always much more to follow as I continue with the Dark Ages and venture back to Rome as well.

New Dane Axers and their Casualties

This one is a conversion using the now OOB War Factory Games arms, well not really sure what happened to War Factory Games, maybe Warlord bought them like they have bought others.

 Your stock kind of sucky pose from GBP.

 These casualties are pretty cool.  Most are Old Glory.

Blood, I actually paint the blood in your standard red colors.  After I clear and base the models then I hit all of the blood areas with the wicked alcohol based Tamiya clear red.  Stinky stuff.

 This one in the brown is a Gripping Beast hunk of metal.

New Bersekers Finished.....

 For quite some time, my Vikings had the old Gripping Beast metal berserkers in it.  They are just really old and poor castings.  I had a whole bunch of Warlord Games barbarians and the Gripping Beast plastic Viking parts fit on those models quite well.

 As you can see, they make some cool looking lean fighting machines.

I've been really toying with the ideas of blood splatter in my pieces, so I did just that with this model.  He got splattered big time, with the techniques that I use in splattering pen and ink drawings, essentially a loaded tooth brush.

The effect is just landed on the front side of the model.

This one below is probably the most boring of the group, but still better than the old metal models.

I really like this one below.  I think he really looks pretty cool.

Be aware that the Warlord Games models are wee bit small for 28 mm when compared to say plastic Gripping Beast.  With Victrix Gauls on the horizon of being released, if you want cooler looking berserkers, that will probably be the kit for you.

More Archers firing at Poor Will Again

Here are the rest of my archers.  These are the Conquest Games plastic medieval archers with items and heads that I used to bring them back in time a bit more.  

Here is the where's Waldo question, can you locate the metal Gripping Beast Viking archer?

A bit closer up, please ignore the movement tray, its just a photo prop to help with quick picture taking. These in my opinion are definitely the best models from Conquest Games to date.  They paint up very easy, much better detail and undercuts than their previous lines of miniatures.  As you can also see, just a ton of head choices, some of which I will not use because they really did not fit the period that I wanted.
