Progress on the War Mammoth Howdah

I chose Apoxie Sculpt for doing the wood grain on the Howdah.  Main reason for this is that it stays workable much longer than Green Stuff.

Side and front shots of the wood grain.  I think its turning out very good.  A week ago I probably could not have done this, but my hands this week are much more stable, less shaky, and my dexterity is coming back.
Only a bunch more planks to go, a few hours and it should be complete.  I've sketch out a bunch of stuff on the mammoth and will start a few things on it also using a mix of different putties.

A new Chaos War Mammoth in WIP

So, back into the closet we go....and we find a LotR Mummak.  So next project is create a new Chaos War Mammoth, this time for my mutant marauder chaos army.  Above is the assembled howdah for the mammoth.  Not sure I will keep the back slide piece yet, may move that, or create a lower platform.
Will have to work on the positioning.  Below is a frontal view.
Could slide forward a bit.  I think the cardboard cutout was further forward.
Everything will be covered with a sculpted wood grain and of course chaos icons.  Still a work in progress....

Dark Ages building continued....

So last we saw this building, it was getting the thatch treatment.  I got to the top of the roof and decided to once again try using the Black Lava texture.  As you can see below when its put down it has this white pasty look when put down initially.
 Side look of the building.
I also found this GW building in my closet, thought it would be a good time to put the kit together.  The pic below shows the cured black lava where you just see the black specs.  You can supplement that texture with a bit of ballast or sand, which the lighter granular material you see.
Below is the fresh black lava with the ballast.

And while I was at it, some goats for my terrain.
I am looking for some oxen and cows in 25-28mm scale.....

Gettin' back at it with a bit of terrain

I was mistaken when last I posted, saying that I put together a 4Ground building.  It was actually a cheaper Bandua building, laser cut wood.  I would rather be at Adepticon, but during this recovery I'm feeling better, but there is no way I could drive and spend a bunch of time there in the condition that I'm currently in.  But I am getting a bit stronger and less fatigued each day, still on a 5 lb weight restriction, still weak, still a bit shaky and occasional balance issues, but getting better each day, each week.

So, onto the building.  Pretty dull looking structure, not much going on.  I wanted a more Dark Ages look than what it currently has.  So out came the popscicle-sticks and some Black Lava.
Hmm....at first I was going to texture the whole roof with the black lava.  But it just was not turning me on.
Pictured below is the black lava texture gel that I was using, handy stuff, that you can supplement with ballast or sand.
So plan B.  Take out the Apoxie Sculp and start layering the thatch on the roof, I know I can drag crooked lines with sculpting tool.
More to follow....

Butcher's Nurgle at Adepticon.....

So I'm cruising around the net and came across some Adepticon coverage.  Appears my buddy Mike was really busy on his Nurgle and hit them with both barrels.  Very cool stuff by Mike.  Although I think the display needs some slime and box of Kleenex.

Wish I could be there, but I'm just not up to that yet.  But fear not, the recovery is happening and I have some cool stuff done that needs photographed and some stuff in the works.

Warhammer 40k Basing, Blood Rage, Tre Manor's Kickstarter....

Okay....I've been away from 40k for a long time and have a bunch of Space Marines that I was chipping away at prior to surgery.  I don't have any current rule books, but I see all of this talk about changes in base sizes.

Can someone tell me what is going on?

Blood Rage....holy smokes.  I decided to back this project, as just looks like some very cool minis at the very least.  Definitely see a Viking fantasy army in my future...Also jumped on the Adrian Smith art book, love his work.  He's not in the past been an artistic influence on me, because he's considerably younger than me, but I see some influence creeping in to my drawings and sketches.

Tre Manor, my favorite sculptor at the moment, has a kick starter for the Evil Chaos Barbarian types out there coming to an end.  If you like chaos like stuff these are nice figures.  I'll be backing it....
