....in more ways than one. I race twice this week, Friday night and Saturday night. Friday is forecasted to reach a high in the 95F with near triple digits the next couple of days. I had 98F when I drove home today. With temps like that I'm expecting the oval track asphalt to be around 120+F on Friday and considering my butt will be a 1/2-inch off the pavement, I may be sweating alot. Probably a slick track with all of the rubber that has built up on it, especially since we are spec'd out to run the hardest tire made. No super sticky tires for us. So it may be very ugly. We'll see.
On Saturday night, forecast is a bit cooler only supposed to be 90F. I'll be going to Sugar River Raceway in Brodhead Wisconsin.
Yep the above pic is the road coarse that I'll be racing on for the first time. And no I won't be running the oval track #05 kart. Its the wrong type of kart to make hard right and left turns with the set-up I have on it. So its Vintage time. My dad has restored two karts, both 50+ years old, rear engine karts, with sticky narrow tires, and kart racing engines made by the chainsaw manufacturer McCulloch. Below is a link to some video we shot on the kart that I will be running, a Bug Sprint, the engine is as old as I am, but freshened up. Its a 80cc and makes nearly as much horsepower as my Briggs Animal. And this thing is small, even I am almost too big to run it. No comfort here.
And speaking of no comfort, below is the kart my dad will be running a Rupp Dart A-Bone with a 100 cc motor. Its what I classify as stupid fast. An absolute handful to drive with more power than you can put to the ground in alot of cases. You drive it for awhile and then get in the Bug and you feel like you are Superman driving the Bug.
So even if you have no real interest in this, I recommend you check out the workmanship that we put into both of these karts and also check out the video of us actually sitting in them. Its like putting wheels and an engine on a really low sitting toilet. Almost like something Orks would do.
